It was a classic year. The start was grey and low cloud reduced visibility down the Solent. The breeze was 15kts SW but by 09.00 the clouds were clearing and wind building to 20kts. This made for fast and exciting sailing round the back of the island. The gybe off St Cats caused a fair amount of excitement - not to say damage - for a fair few. Big gains were to be made as boats went too far out into the foul tide and lumpier sea. An early RLYC casualty was the Farr 45 'Atomic' rammed by 'Hugo Boss' which brought their rig down. (Another collision for F1 driver Lewis Hamilton who was crewing on H Boss). H Boss was disqualified
Good news for the Club was the success of the Treasurer's veteran J39 'Jackdaw' which won Class 1C with a fairly veteran crew including our Commodore.
It was definitely a memorable and excellent day. Leopard broke the Round-the-Island record by 12 minutes despite an early collision. However they won the protest and now hold their own record (from previous boat).
