Royal London Yacht Club
Cowes Week 2008

The Ball, The Champagne Party, The Dinner, The Fireworks Party, The Commodore’s Dinner - all at The Club in Cowes. The air-conditioning was so good this year that some wanted it turned off

Cowes Week was as usual very eventful with fantastic social and sailing entertainment. The racing was intense and for the first time in many years not a race was lost due to too much - or too little wind. Even the SB3s managed a series of clean starts. It was only the XODs that got black-flagged, and nobody was too sure why?

The most wind was on Monday and the last Saturday when it was gusting over 30 kts

We will add photos but I am sure you have pictures and news reports from the week which could entertain us all.

How did RLYC members fare in the racing?

I know James Brown in ‘Attila the Nun’ was 4th in Sigma 33s. Peter Haworth, Huw Alban-Davies, Andrea Myers & Andrew McIrvine were 3rd in the 1720s.

Many members of the club compete in the Daring fleet but all the results pale into insignificance when compared to the new "King of Cowes’ - Giles Peckham. As the winner of last years Daring Class in Cowes Week he got to compete against all other class winners in SB3s on the Friday before the Week.

It was a windy and difficult day - but he came out on top and as well as the title wins a VW Touareg car. This is a fantastic achievement and good for the Class and the Club.

The Dauntless team won the Week again so have to have another go next year - but Giles says this time it will be co-owner Milo Carver - because you can only have so many cars!

Please send me reports and pictures of members involvement with the week.
