THE COMMODORE’S RALLY
SUNDAY 10 AUGUST 2008
In a strong south westerly breeze seven RLYC boats and some 70 intrepid
RLYC members and guests set off for the Beaulieu River for Jamie Clarke’s
last Commodore’s Rally as Commodore. The inclement forecast had caused a
further 5 skippers to cancel their attendance on the last day, but Bob
Milner came manfully to the rescue at the eleventh hour, and brought along
Twin Wakes plus a boat load of stranded members.
Once again this year Rear Commodore Ted Fort very kindly agreed to provide
the use of his jetty at Fiddlers for the Rally. It is an ideal location for
safely securing up to a dozen boats, and we are very fortunate to have been
able to go there. Ted’ hospitality was also as generous as ever, and the
Rally got off to a great start with drinks and canapés hosted by Ted in
his delightful gardens around his swimming pool. The weather this year was
too cold for all but the very young to take a dip!
Returning once more to their boats, Members and their guests enjoyed a rain
less afternoon in breezy but sunny conditions as gourmet picnic lunches and
quantities of appropriate libations were consumed, stories were told and
re-told, and a good time was had by all. Peace descended on Fiddlers once
again at 1800 as the party broke up, and everyone returned happily home
after an excellent Commodore’s Rally.
Our thanks must go to Ted Fort and his Staff for all their support, and to
all those who came along and helped to make this such a fun event.
