The Dutch retained the Cannonball trophy for the third year running.
They have also kindly presented a trophy for the runner-up. This is a fine
model of a Dutch botter which will now be displayed in our Club for the
next year.
All 18 races were completed. The overnight hopes of the Royal London team
were gradually whittled away. Although they won their first race against
the Royal Netherlands team as the wind increased the Dutch excelled and won
two vital races against the locals. The final results were 7 wins RNYC, 6
for RLYC and 5 for the Irish team from the Royal St George. This shows it
was almost as close as it could be - the racing was of a very high standard
with lots of tactical tricks and place changes.
The social side at the club was also a great success. We enjoyed two
convivial suppers and a superb final prizegiving dinner.
Special thanks are due to the Dawson father and son team who provided
‘Terpetra’ as the mother ship. Alan Bulmer organised the RLYC
team and the prizegiving. Race officers and umpires included the usual
suspects, Bob Milner, Roger Sutton and George Chapman. Numerous others
contributed time and effort to make this a very special weekend.
We look forward to the event in Dun Laoghaire next year.
